Beautiful babies welcomed into world as TC Kirrily makes landfall

As she sleeps soundly in her mother’s arms, baby Stella is oblivious to the drama that accompanied her birth.
Stella was born at Townsville University Hospital at 10.25pm on Thursday 25 January just as Cyclone Kirrily made landfall, bringing with her gale-force winds, torrential rain, and widespread power outages.
Maternity unit manager Honey Newman said cyclones always brought babies.
“There’s evidence that the number of membrane ruptures and births increase when the barometric pressure drops,” she said.
“TUH welcomed eight babies, five girls and three boys, from noon on Thursday to the early hours of Friday morning and we couldn’t be more delighted.”
Congratulations to Stella’s elated mum and dad Kerri-Anne Olsen and Dray Rangi; a birthday to remember!
