Health service and university to foster partnership as MoU signed

Published: 29 July 2024
Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) and CQUniversity have come together and made a commitment to working in collaboration to improve education and health outcomes for the north Queensland community.

The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding that formalises the shared intentions to explore opportunities for cooperation across education and training, research, workforce development and regional health developments.

Townsville Hospital and Health Service Board Chair Tony Mooney said this was a commitment from both organisations to continue to foster a strong partnership to benefit north Queenslanders.

“Signing this document highlights a shared vision for the future of our region that prioritises educational opportunities and builds a robust local workforce to care for our community,” he said.

“Education and health are the backbone of our community and it is important Townsville HHS and CQUniversity capitalise on the opportunity to work together to meet the region’s needs.

“It's never been more important for us to work together to futureproof the health workforce and ensure our organisations are prepared to meet the needs of future generations.”

Mr Mooney said he was excited to see what the future held as both organisations worked in collaboration.

“The health service is one of the region’s largest employers and a leader in health care, research and education for regional Australia,” he said.

“This commitment cements our dedication to improving the lives of north Queenslanders.”

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Nick Klomp said the signing of the MoU was a significant milestone.

“This collaboration is our commitment to future-proofing the health workforce, addressing the needs of north Queensland’s growing community, and ensuring that our region's education and health needs are met,” Professor Klomp said.

“The primary goal of this partnership is to create a robust and future-ready health workforce that can meet the evolving demands of this community.

“By working together, CQUniversity and the Townsville University Hospital aim to provide innovative and comprehensive education and training opportunities for our students.

“While CQUniveristy has had a longstanding relationship with the Townsville University Hospital, the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) officially formalises our partnership and allows us to work towards shared and mutually-beneficial goals.

“This partnership will extend on the already existing opportunities that provide our students with unparalleled learning experiences, including hands-on training and clinical placements.

“The partnership represents a powerful alliance that will drive positive change and make a lasting impact on our community.”
