Research is the foundation of modern health care. Each day researchers make advances in health which change how we think about treatment and advance the science of medicine. 

The Townsville Institute of Health Research and Innovation is proud to be a research leader in regional Australia that encourages the translation of research into real-world application. 

We are passionate about improving the health and lives of people in our diverse community. Townsville Hospital and Health Service consists of 21 facilities including 19 hospitals and community heath campuses as well as two residential aged care facilities. We provide public healthcare for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km². The health service encompasses a large area of regional, rural, and remote Queensland and supports a significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population as well refugees which resettle in Townsville under the Humanitarian Settlement Program. 

Our research strategy 

Research is central to improving patient outcomes and experiences. Our Research Strategic Plan 2023-2026 centres on five key ideas digital health research, workforce and staff, First Nations people, innovation and translation, and collaboration.
