Radiation oncology
Our radiation oncology team specialises in providing modern, state-of-the-art radiation therapy for the treatment of adult cancers. We can treat patients with conventional, intensity-modulated, volumetric-modulated and stereotactic radiotherapy, as well as brachytherapy.
Our equipment comprises five linear accelerators, a superficial radiation therapy unit and a high-dose rate brachytherapy afterloader. Our dedicated CT simulator is equipped with four-dimensional technology to accurately account for respiratory motion of tumours, and a conventional simulator with fluoroscopy and cone beam CT capability. PET scan and MRI performed in radiology can be co-registered with the planning CT to aid with accurate tumour definition.
Our team includes senior radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, and radiation oncology medical physicists. As a teaching hospital, we integrate undergraduate and post-graduate teaching into our clinical load with five accredited registrar training positions. The department is part of the state-wide radiation oncology training network, with our staff and patients actively involved in clinical trials and research.
