Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU)
Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU)
The Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU) is a public facility located at the Townsville University Hospital for people experiencing mental illness who cannot be adequately supported in the community environment. The unit has a low-dependency unit with gender-specific areas and a high-dependency unit.
The facility has a highly specialised team who can assist with all aspects of a consumer’s treatment and recovery including psychiatrists, a social worker, an occupational therapist, mental health nurses, an Indigenous mental health worker and access to a range of other support services.
Friends and relatives are welcome to visit inpatients at the Acute Mental Health Unit between the hours of 8:00am-8:00pm. However, the safety and wellbeing for all consumers and visitors is our priority, so visiting is at the discretion of the shift coordinator.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which our health facilities have been built and on which we meet today.
We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging; and we value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and knowledge.
