Cardiac Care

The Townsville HHS provides a comprehensive range of cardiac services to the North Queensland community. The Cardiac Centre ensures your journey through the cardiac services are person centered and tailored to your individual needs. Our Coronary Care Unit (CCU) provides high-dependency care if you are acutely unwell and our Cardiac Ward provides specialist cardiac care following your procedures or transition from the acute services of CCU or Intensive Care.

Services provided

• Cardiac Investigations Unit
  • 24 or 48-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter monitors)
  • 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  • Cardiac event monitoring (seven days)
  • Dobutamine stress echocardiogram (DSE)
  • Exercise stress echocardiogram (ESE)
  • Exercise stress tests (EST)
  • Pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator clinics
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TOE)
  • Transthoracic echocardiogram (ECHO)
• Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (24-hour service)
  • Coronary angiography and right heart studies
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention including rotablation, intra-vascular ultrasound and fractional flow reserve
  • Structural heart interventions including TAVR
  • Insertion of pacemakers and implantable defibrillators
  • Electrophysiology studies
• Cardiac surgery for coronary artery bypass grafting and other open-heart procedures
• Cardiac patient education and rehabilitation
