Diabetes and Endocrinology
The Townsville HHS Diabetes and Endocrine Centre promotes prevention, detection, treatment and management of diabetes in both adult and paediatric patients and their families. The centre offers a clinical service including health promotion, research, information, counselling, school visits, support to teachers and carers and education to all people affected by diabetes and endocrine conditions. The HHS also provides specialist out-patient clinics and inpatient management wherever required. We are a nationally accredited Diabetes and Endocrine Centre.
The service provides compressive care for adult and paediatric patients with endocrine disorders including pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, bone, and reproductive disorders it is well supported by nuclear medicine and pituitary (neurosurgeons) and endocrine surgeons.
The team supports general medicine and endocrine disorders in pregnancy with the obstetric medicine unit, insulin pump management, diabetes high risk foot service, outreach rural clinic and telehealth service.
