Thank-you cards a new way to make staff smile

A local consumer group has come up with a novel idea making it easy for patients and families to express their gratitude to Townsville University Hospital staff.
Peter Phillips said the Townsville Community Partner Advisory Group (TCPAG) came up with the idea of thank-you cards and the group was delighted when the health service agreed to fund them.
"We wanted to find an easy way for patients to thank those staff who had given great care or had made their stay in hospital that little bit brighter," he said.
“The thank-you cards are free and available to patients and families to write messages in and either hand deliver to the ward or leave with the feedback service at the front of the hospital.”
Peter said while formal feedback was always appreciated, finding a way to allow patients to personally thank staff was something the TCPAG wanted to do.
“People are often full of good intentions when it comes to thanking staff but then they leave hospital and life happens,” he said.
“We are delighted to see this project come to fruition for the benefit of both our patients and staff; ultimately we’d like to extend the initiative to our outlying hospitals as well.”
The images on the cards include flowers, dogs, and teddy bears; there is also a card with ‘thank you’ written in multiple languages.
This was a consumer-led initiative, where members of the community - just like you - came together to create real, meaningful change. Would you like to be a part of one of our consumer groups? Find out more here.
